Considered one of the greatest interpreters of Mozart, the Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires is an artist who combines highly refined style with a conscious effort to decipher the complexities of intellectual and spiritual depth of the music. Pires began studying piano at thd age of 3, and held his first concert two years later. He sang Mozart concerts at the age of 7 and won the most important prize for Portuguese musicians when she was 9 years.
